This behavior clearly indicated that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BIOS WOL settings were correct<\/li>\n<li>Network adapter hardware supported WOL<\/li>\n<li>Windows power management was preventing proper shutdown<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Step 1: Enable PME (Power Management Event)<\/h3>\n<pre class=\"\"><code class=\"language-powershell\"># Enable PME in the network adapter registry settings\r\n# Note: Path may differ - use your network adapter's registry key\r\nSet-ItemProperty -Path \"HKLM:\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\Class\\{4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\\0005\" -Name \"EnablePME\" -Value 1\r\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p><em>This enables the network adapter to send Power Management Events to wake the system from S5 shutdown state.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Step 2: Change Power Button Action to Shutdown<\/h3>\n<pre><code class=\"language-powershell\"># Set the Start menu power button to perform Shutdown instead of Sleep\r\npowercfg \/setacvalueindex SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_BUTTONS UIBUTTON_ACTION 2\r\npowercfg \/setactive SCHEME_CURRENT\r\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p><em>This configures the power button in Windows Start menu to perform a true shutdown (S5) instead of entering sleep mode (S3).<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Step 3: Disable Hybrid Sleep<\/h3>\n<pre><code class=\"language-powershell\"># Disable Hybrid Sleep for both AC and battery power\r\npowercfg \/setacvalueindex SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_SLEEP HYBRIDSLEEP 0\r\npowercfg \/setdcvalueindex SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_SLEEP HYBRIDSLEEP 0\r\npowercfg \/setactive SCHEME_CURRENT\r\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p><em>This disables Hybrid Sleep to ensure the system enters a clean S5 shutdown state.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wake-on-LAN (WOL) functionality is completely broken when shutting down Windows through the Start menu, but works flawlessly when performing a forced shutdown using the physical power button.
